deep valley digest

april 2024

thanks for subscribing to my newsletter! here’s a march recap, and some information for april and may. the newsletter is a little chaotic this month!

upcoming booking form

as a perk of subscribing to this newsletter, here is an early access link to my booking form for may. i’ll be closing this link, and opening my books to the public on april 10th, so make sure to fill out a form before then.

news flash its new flash

surprise! 2 spreads of flash dropping for april! all designs are available in black and gray or color (except that one pencil drawing :p )

reminder: i do not hold/reserve flash, and i do not repeat flash. these designs are first come first serve. to see available flash, check out this google drive link

london guest spot THIS MONTH!

hello europe, i am coming your way! i’ll be doing 4 days in london at the end of this month. i’ll be at welcome on april 26th and 27th, and scorpio mars on the 28th and 29th.

I’ll be doing an 11am and 3pm appointment on each of those days. if you’re interested in getting some work from me, please email me at [email protected] with “london” in your subject line to start the booking process! please also include your preferred day/time and what you’d like to get from me (flash design or custom).

cool tats from march

here’s just a few tats i did last month that i really resonated with, would love to do more like these.

the flower was a full freehand, and i got to start two other really cool freehand projects this month as well. i’ve really been enjoying the process of freehanding as it feels super freeflowing and much easier to make work that flows with the body. definitely hit me up if you have gapfiller ideas or ideas for larger/more flowy pieces!

the second and third are pieces with really cool color palettes. i’m really looking forward to seeing how they heal up !

the final pic is a custom i did for my friend J (@restraint_release) as part of a trade we’re doing! i’m really obsessed with the design and can’t wait to get my elbow blasted by them the next time we’re in the same city.

works in progress

i’ve been getting back into the swing of things this march, and have been hard at work on a few top secret projects that i can’t tell you about just yet. one of them is a long term project that i’ve been working on since september, and it’s something i’ve always wanted to try working on. we’ll be announcing it this summer so keep your eyes peeled! with that out of the way, here’s what i spent the most time on this month

new website + shop

i’m almost finished making my new website. i spent a lot of time drawing assets and hand building it from scratch on cargo. i’m quite happy with how fleshed out the tattoo section of the site feels, with access on the site to my booking forms, flash archive, available flash drive, and info/aftercare/etc; just need to take some time to upload all of the tattoo pics and flash that i’d like to include. i’m also including a “print” section of the site that will have all of my comics and zines uploaded to read for free.

something that will take a little while longer is the deep valley webshop. i closed the shop down a few weeks ago to focus on rebuilding the site, and i plan on taking a break before jumping into building out the webstore. in the meantime, i’d like to produce some new merch so i have a lot of cool stuff to drop when the shop reopens. some merch ideas are a reissue of my “play” hat from last year, some new stickers/prints, and a top secret passion project that is very cool and also wearable

heaven ii coloring

i’ve been working on the coloring for the new zine. it’s been going well! all is in order to print by the summer time. enjoy a sneak peak at the coloring process.

p.s. it’s come to my attention that the risolab that i work at has acquired some new colors so stay tuned as i may be adjusting the palettes here :0

new pencil drawing

i’ve been pushing myself to learn how to draw with pencils more over the last few weeks. i feel like there’s a lot of opportunity there with grayscale values. some of these are things i want to tattoo at some point but mostly i’m just trying to keep myself feeling excited about new possibilities in my drawings. there’s been a lot of bad drawings that never got posted, but here's a wip of the first full drawing i’ve done that i feel really stoked about. planning to build out the values in the border/background before calling it finished. hope y’all like it!

new short comic

i don’t have a ton to share here, and nothing visual, but i’ve begun writing my first comic since college (2019ish). i’m really excited about this too. not sure when it’ll be ready but i’m aiming to print it alongside my new zine when i’m in the lab this summer.

society of the snow

isabella and i watched society of the snow on netflix with my mom earlier this month, and i really enjoyed it. it’s the super harrowing tale of a college rugby team that gets stranded in the andes when their plane crashes. i was very invested in it, and all of the performances are incredible. i would definitely recommend if you have a couple of free hours to watch something!

gunpla

i bought my first ever gundam as a birthday treat to myself earlier this month at toy tokyo (on 2nd av in manhattan, definitely recommend going here). i set aside a whole afternoon to work on it the next week, and have never been so immersed in a silly little task that wasn’t drawing before. it was super therapeutic and relaxing to just cut out little plastic pieces and put the thing together. now i have this cool little detailed figure hanging out on my desk. scooped two more afterwards since they can be fairly affordable, and saving them for a rainy day. getting into the world of gundam via the anime as well but much more to come on that

guarapo

isabella had been hyping this place up for months to me, so when we finally got the chance to go to this puerto rican spot in williamsburg, my expectations were pretty high. but the team at guarapo delivered! the food was so flavorful and the drinks were great. definitely check this place out if you’re a fan of chicharrón. but beware, the portions are huge so definitely bring a friend and split something or be prepared for some bomb ass leftovers.
