november 2023
thanks for subscribing to my newsletter! here’s an october recap, and some information for the rest of the year (and next year!)
upcoming booking form
as i mentioned in my last newsletter, i’m taking reduced bookings in november and december to focus on my mental health, artist burnout, etc; and to spend time with family. i’ve filled up all my openings already, but if i have any cancellations or decide to add any days last minute, i’ll be posting those on my instagram story. there won’t be any new flash in this newsletter, but tons of older stuff is available so feel free to ask about anything you may be interested in :)
i’ll have lots of fun stuff to share throughout the next two months, then i’ll be taking a month long road trip in january. bookings will return to normal in february when i get back to nyc with lots of new flash and ideas.
artifacts solo show

i’m super excited to invite you to my first ever solo exhibition! i found a home for the artifacts series at The Front, a gallery in the lower east side in manhattan (131 chrystie st). the opening reception will be held on nov 11th. it’s a free event, so i hope to see you there! if you miss the opening, the show will be on display from nov 11th till dec 9th.
i’ve been working on the artifacts series since may, and have shared a few of the paintings in this newsletter. since we confirmed the show, i’ve been hustling to finish the remaining 9 paintings and get everything sorted for the show, which is why there’s no new flash or much other work this month. in addition to the 20 paintings, there will be some sculpture work and a brand new riso print available at the gallery.
cool tats from october
here’s just a few tats i did last month that i really resonated with, would love to do more like these. I’ve been working with a smaller needle a ton this month, and it’s been super fun to get into tiny granular details, like the pikmin/bloodborne piece. would absolutely love to work at that scale more.
it was a super fun month for color tattooing also, and i’d love to explore more colorful work. specifically, the wizard with the staff was a super fun color exploration (in the jacket). would be interested in combining colors and experimenting with them more.
i got to mess with some really wild face/head placements this month, which i’ve never really done either. it’s super fun to tattoo strange places, so if you want to do some weird placements definitely hit me up! more faces and hands please. lastly, i got to shade a bunch and play with that style more, which was super gratifying. lets do more baby!

works in progress
here’s some other stuff i’m working on :)
[codename] heaven ii
i’ve gone through most of my flash from this last year and tagged the pieces i’d like to have in this book. now that the work from the show is mostly done, i’d like to focus on formatting and coloring the work so it will be printable in february when i get back in the risolab
untitled painting project
i don’t want to lose painting momentum, so i’m launching into another painting project this month. the project will be roughly based on these stylistic experiments i was making in 2019-2020 that got swept to the side for more figurative illustration work. i’m making this work in preparation for a group show i’ll be doing with my studiomates in the new year. more info to come!

red hook food corp
i asked nathan (@iambratwurst) if there was anything on his nyc bucket list while he was in town from london. he said “the ocky way” so i said “SUUUUUUUUUURE!!!!!” this spot, made famous on tik tok for the insane creations of rahim mohammad, is an unassuming deli in an unassuming part of red hook. rahim wasn’t in when we went, but everyone working there was committed to the bit. it was a bit odd hearing regular deli guys shout out “SURE!!!” and “here’s the result” in the typical ocky way after asking you what you want, and if you want to record a video, in a normal voice. definitely odd to be in a tik tok space in real life. i got a chopped cheese with a hash brown, bacon, and three mozzarella sticks on two honey buns. it was an absolute beast of a sandwich and shockingly one of the best things i’ve eaten in a while. i felt horrible immediately after and had to sit with that in my gut while stuck in brooklyn traffic out of red hook. worth it.
new york ren faire
i went up to tuxedo ny with some friends on the final weekend of the new york ren faire back in early october. i of course went as a wizard/shepherd thing that i bought on amazon 3 days beforehand for a couple of bucks. tuxedo is super close to nyc, i think about a 1.5 hour drive. the weather was miserable, but we donned our ponchos and braved the rain to eat big turkey legs and look at insane costumes. that was for sure the highlight. unfortunately the jousting was cancelled due to the rain, but we saw a sword balancing flaming whip guy and a strongwoman show. we drank mead, and wandered around the sprawling ren faire site for most of the afternoon. i wanted to buy a cool sword while i was up there but i think generally a lot of the shopping to be done is a bit overpriced. i will look elsewhere for a crazy sword. anyways, i’d definitely like to go back next year, hopefully on a clear and sunny day.
cyberpunk 2077
i never played cyberpunk on release or up until this point, due to the notoriously fucked up state that it shipped in. but my brother swore to me that with the new phantom liberty dlc that the game is not only playable but super good, so i gave it a whirl. it’s a pretty fun sci fi rpg all things considered. i still run into bugs from time to time, mostly related to the driving, but the world is insanely immersive and detailed. the story is great, and keanu reeves absolutely kills it. i think a lot of the performances in the game are great, and the plots/missions are interesting and memorable. i think sometimes the dialogue, particularly from the main character, can be a bit corny or take me out, but overall i don’t have many complaints. i was bummed to not be able to play starfield on my ps5, but considering what i’ve seen of that game i’m glad i have cyberpunk to sink my teeth into instead. fyi my gaming queue is cyberpunk → spiderman 2 → assassins creed mirage → lies of p → sea of stars but please feel free to recommend me anything else you’ve been playing!
honorable mentions
i got to check out “dirty jersey” which is a 40 min short horror film from david keane (who i did the mothra chest piece on) and it was super good. def recommend that if you can find a way to watch. we also watched hellraiser, one of the all time horny horror movies. my professor from college, david soman, has a beautiful show up at planthouse gallery until november 25th, so definitely get over there and check it out. i got to check out anthony coleman’s fantastic show at amanita gallery as well. it came down on october 14th but blurring books has a really amazing book of his work that i definitely recommend.
