cool tats from august
here’s just a few tats i did last month that i really resonated with, would love to do more like these. it was really fun to experiment with color more this month, and i’m hoping to keep that going in september. the shading in the doggies piece was a completely different technique to what i am used to, and i hope to explore that style more as well. this witch was fun, and i’d love to do more small-scale blackout work. the witch was done in b&w and color and is no longer available :o

monthly merch 4 sale
new merch
this month, i’ve got a really cool new throw blanket out with throw and co! well, it came out midway through august, but i haven’t announced it on the newsletter yet. it’s the four horsemen of the apocalypse drawing i did back in july, and i’m so thrilled with how it came out. ps… i may have found a person for the backpiece version… stay tuned

check out my webstore and print store below to see available merch! currently deep valley sticker pack and heaven have been restocked, as well as a ton of older work
works in progress
i got hit up to work on some nda illustration stuff early in august, so between that, tattooing, and some much needed r&r time, i don’t have a lot to show you guys this month in the wip section! i have a lot of plans and things to unveil but most of it is not ready to share yet.
artifacts series
so as i mentioned, i haven’t had as much time to work on this series this month as in july. i did squeak out a few paintings, bringing the total up to 9.
i’m still looking for a space in nyc to show this work when it’s complete, maybe some time in the fall/winter, so drop me a line if you have any leads!

upcoming events / guest spots
on september 16th, the shapeworld gang will be participating in the pictobeach bazaar out in the rockaways. come out to see the absolutely stacked lineup of artists selling their wares and hang by the beach for a farewell to summer.

stick around after the show to see a comics reading hosted by frog farm, including a reading from shapeworlds darling michael giurato.

i will only be tattooing in new york in september. planning a longer trip in january and will be tattooing out of nyc. i’ll have more information in the october newsletter!

cafe mutton in hudson, ny
for this month’s food recommendation i am taking you guys to cafe mutton in upstate new york. this is a classic breakfast spot, with good coffee and amazing pastries. we got orange muffins and sticky bread for the table to share and both were super fresh and very very tasty. me and isa shared a crepe which was great, and an omlette that was out of this world. i’m not sure exactly what was going on in that omlette, but there was definitely magic in whatever aioli they had in there. i was skeptical when i read “chips” as an ingredient, but they were the key, bringing a salty crunch to each bite. i almost want to drive 3 hours out of brooklyn just for that omlette.
the new museum
not a crazy unique recommendation, but we took a trip to the new museum to see what was up. it had been a while for me, but we had a great time. the current exhibits were all really outstanding. the highlight for me was mire lee’s “black sun”, an installation containing sculptures that seemed to join organic forms with machine parts. the pieces all oozed and moved and made noises, in ways that are reminiscent of a cronenberg movie or a giger piece. other shows up currently are pepón osorio’s “my beating heart / mi corazón latiente”, winnie minerva’s “the original riot”, and tuan andrew nguyen’s “radiant remembrance”. all of these shows close on sept 17th so you definitely have time to go check it out! probably one of my favorite collection’s of shows that i’ve seen at the new museum.
talk to me
we went to see talk to me, the new horror movie from a24 and the philippou brothers. i’d recommend it if you like being tense throughout an entire film. i’ve never taken a horror deep dive, so my context is thin for these kinds of movies, but i really did get thoroughly freaked out. the plot and premise are kind of basic, but where they go with it is really cool. the prosthetics/special effects makeup team really tore it up, which was a highlight of the movie to me. i did have a hard time going to bed if that says anything to anyone.
honorable mentions
i’ve been playing diablo 2 with my roommates on switch a bunch, and pikmin 4 on my own. i saw oldboy for the first time, which is a fantastic movie. we went to montesacro in williamsburg for isabella’s birthday which was super yummy. if you want to rent an airbnb near hudson, check out this one.
